Disassemble & Assemble Oil Filter Base & Engine Oil Cooler (Earlier Industrial Engines)

Start By:

a. remove oil filter base & engine oil cooler

1. Remove the bolts that hold cover (1) to base (2). Remove the cover.

2. Remove the three nuts that hold core (3) to the base. Remove the core.

3. Remove the cap and fitting (6), spring (5), and valve (4) from the base.

NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the oil filter base and engine oil cooler.

4. Put clean oil on valve (4) and spring (5). Install the valve, spring, fitting (6) and the cap in base (2). Tighten fitting (6) to a torque of 25 ± 5 N·m (19 ± 4 lb ft). Tighten the cap to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (15 ± 4 lb ft).

NOTE: The gasket must be installed with point (7) (indexing point) in the position shown.

5. Install the gasket and core (3) in base (2). Install the nuts that hold the core in position. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 21 ± 3 N·m (16 ± 2 lb ft).

6. Put the gasket and cover (1) in position on the base and install the bolts.

End By:

a. install oil filter base & engine oil cooler

Disassemble & Assemble Oil Filter Base & Engine Oil Cooler (Industrial & Marine Engines)

Start By:

a. remove oil filter base & engine oil cooler (industrial engines)

b. remove engine oil cooler (marine engines)

NOTE: Steps 1 through 3 are for marine engines only.

1. Remove the bolts and cover (1).

2. Remove adapters (3) and base (2).

3. Remove seals (4) from base (2).

4. Remove the bolts that hold cover (5) to the base and remove the cover.

5. Remove three nuts (7) and remove the cooler core from base (6).

6. Remove the cap and fitting (8), spring (9) and valve (10) from base (6).

7. Remove plug (13), spring (12) and valve (11) from base (6).

NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the oil filter base and engine oil cooler.

8. Put clean engine oil on valve (10) and spring (9). Install valve (10), spring (9), fitting (8) and the cap in base (6) as shown. Tighten fitting (8) to a torque of 25 ± 5 N·m (19 ± 4 lb ft). Tighten the cap to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (15 ± 4 lb ft).

9. Put clean engine oil on valve (11), spring (12) and the O-ring seal for plug (13). Install valve (11), spring (12), the O-ring seal and plug (13) in base (6) as shown.

NOTE: The gasket must be installed with point (14) (indexing point) in the up position toward the front of the engine.

10. Put the cooler core, the gasket, and base (6) in position and install the nuts to hold the unit together. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 21 ± 3 N·m (16 ± 2 lb ft).

11. Put the gasket and cover (5) in position and install the bolts.

NOTE: Steps 12 through 14 are for marine engines only.

12. Put clean engine oil on seals (4) and install them in base (2).

13. Put base (2) in position on the oil cooler and install adapters (3). Tighten the adapters to a torque of 70 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 5 lb ft).

14. Put the gasket and cover (1) in position and install the bolts to hold cover (1) and base (2) together.

End By:
