Disassemble & Assemble Sea Water Pump (Earlier)

Start By:

a. remove sea water pump

1. Remove bolt (1) and remove pulley (2).

2. Remove bolts (3) and mounting bracket (4).

3. Turn pump assembly over and remove bolts (5).

4. Remove cover (7) and gasket (6).

5. Turn pump assembly over again and remove bearing housing (8). Remove impeller (9).

6. Remove gasket (10) and wear plate (11).

7. Turn the bearing housing over and remove snap ring (12) and shaft assembly (13).

8. Remove bearing (17), spacer (15), bearing (16) and seal (14).

9. Remove O-ring seal (18). Remove seal (19) from the bearing housing with tooling (A).

NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the sea water pump.

10. Install seal (14) on the shaft with the chamfer face toward the bearings. Install bearing (16), spacer (15) and bearing (17).

11. Use tooling (A) to install seal (19) in the bearing housing with the lip of the seal toward the bearings. Install O-ring seal (18) in the housing.

12. Install shaft assembly (13) and snap ring (12).

NOTICE

Be careful not to cut the edges of the impeller on the inlet and outlet ports when it is installed.

13. Install impeller (9) into the housing with tool (B). Use a hammer to push the impeller into the housing.

14. Install wear plate (11) and gasket (10).

15. Install bearing housing (8) into the impeller housing.

16. Install gasket (6), cover (7), and bolts (5).

17. Install mounting bracket (4) and bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 23 ± 4 N·m (17 ± 4 lb ft).

18. Install pulley (2) and bolt (1). Tighten bolt to a torque of 14 ± 3 N·m (10 ± 2 lb ft).

End By:

a. install sea water pump

Disassemble Sea Water Pump (Later)

Start By:

a. remove sea water pump

1. Loosen bolt (2) and remove pulley (1) and the key from the pump shaft.

2. Remove bracket (3), nipple (5), elbows (4), (6) and (7) from the sea water pump body.

3. Remove screws (8), cover (9) and the gasket.

4. Remove spacer (10) and impeller assembly (11) from the pump.

5. Remove screw (12) to remove cam (13) from body assembly (14).

6. Remove plate (15) from body assembly (14).

7. Turn the pump assembly over and remove seal (17). Use tool (A) to remove ring (16).

8. Turn the pump assembly over and use a press to remove the shaft assembly and bearing from body assembly (14).

9. Use tool (B) and remove the ring that holds bearing (19) to shaft assembly (18). Use tool (C) and a press to push shaft assembly (18) out of bearing (19) as shown. Do not remove the bronze bushing that is fastened to the shaft.

10. Remove seal (20) from body assembly (14).

11. Remove the ceramic seal and grommet of seal assembly (21). Use tool group (D) and a press to push the carbon half of seal assembly (21) out of body assembly (14) toward the drive end as shown.

Assemble Sea Water Pump (Later)

1. Put a small amount of clean grease on the lip of inner bearing seal (20) and install it in body assembly (14). Make sure the lip of the seal is away from the bearing bore as shown.

2. Use tool (C) as support for the inner race of bearing (19) and use a press to push shaft assembly (18) in the bearing.

3. Use tool (B) to install the ring that holds bearing (19) in position. Make sure the flat side of the ring is toward the bearing.

4. Use a press and a piece of pipe 44.5 mm (1 3/4 in) diameter x 101.6 mm (4 in) long to install bearing (19) and the shaft assembly in body assembly (14) as shown.

5. Use tool (A) to install ring (16) in body assembly (14) with the flat side of the ring toward the bearing.

6. Make sure the rubber grommet is in position in ceramic seal seat (22). Put clean water on the grommet and install seat (22) on the pump shaft with the grommet toward the bearing.

7. Install seal (23) on the pump shaft with the carbon face toward seat (22).

8. Use tool (E) and a press to install seal (23) and seat (22) until seal (23) is even with the bottom of the impeller bore in body assembly (14).

9. Make an alignment of the opening (slot) in plate (15) with the dowel in body assembly (14) and install plate in the body assembly.

10. Put Permatex on the top of cam (13) and on the threads of screw (12). Put cam (13) in position and install screw (12).

11. Put a small amount of 5P0960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the end surfaces of impeller (11) and on the impeller bore in the body assembly. Push down and turn to install impeller (11) in the body assembly. Install spacer (10).

12. Put the gasket and cover (9) on the body assembly and install screws (8).

13. Put a small amount of clean grease on the lip of seal (17). Install seal (17) until it is even with the surface of body assembly (14). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the outside.

14. Install elbows (4), (6) and (7), nipple (5) and bracket (3) on the pump body.
