NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3574" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warrdnty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3574" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Program is to be done in conjunction with the January 25, 1992 Service Letter - PI1186 and the January 27, 1992 Service Letter - PS4715.

A drain plug needs to be installed in the idler hub of certain Challenger 65 and Challenger 75 Tractors to permit draining and refilling with oil while the idler is installed on the tractor. In addition, the bearings, spindles and hubs will be inspected/replaced and a torque preload of 135 N·m (100 lb ft) will be used for assembly.

Rework all 8R5037 Hubs in parts stock.
Affected Product
The January 20, 1992 Service Magazine article "Improved Front Idler Hub Assembly" describes the update and gives the procedure for installing the drain plug and the revised preload used for assembly.
If it is necessary to install new bearings, spindles and/or hubs, refer to the Service Manual.

Service Claim Allowances
Parts Stock
Submit one claim for reworking all 8R5037 Hubs in parts stock. A maximum of 1 hour per hub will be allowed for the rework.
Affected Product
NOTE: This is an 8-hour job, 5 hours for undercarriage removal and installation, and 3 hours for reworking the hubs.
NOTE: It is recommended that this Program be implemented at the same time as the January 25, 1992 Service Letter - PI1186 and the January 27, 1992 Service Letter - PS4715.
NOTE: U.S. and Canadian Dealers Only - This Program does not qualify for a Type 2 SIMS Report.
Parts Disposition
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
