NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3571" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3571" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The front strut housing assembly may crack on certain 776B Tractors and 777B Trucks. The cylinder assemblies need to be inspected and replaced with a 0R1784 Cylinder Assembly if necessary.

NOTE: In addition to the Affected Product listed, dealers will have to search their parts records to see if they received any 9J9279 Housing Assemblies or 9T8813 Front Suspension Cylinder Groups through Morton Parts between January, 1990 and August, 1991. If so, the dealer(s) need to determine which truck(s) or tractor(s) they were installed on and take the necessary action as described in the action required.

Dealers will need to order parts for this Program. Quantities listed are per cylinder housing that requires replacement.

Action Required
NOTE: In all cases, the heat code of the housing must be entered in the SIMS file for each of the affected product. Place the heat code in the 20 digit space. Example: L-MRM or R-MKL
If needed, the 8T1128, 8C3846, and 8T6637 Wear Rings may be replaced at the owner's expense. These are normal wear items.
Check the heat code on both of the front suspension cylinder housings. The heat code is located at the top of the 9J9279 Housing Assembly. See the Illustration. If the heat code is one of the following a 0R1784 Cylinder Assembly needs to be installed.

After the 9J9279 Housing Assembly is removed, a 6" × 6" section containing the the heat code and part number must be cut/torched from the housing.

Service Claim Allowances
NOTE: It is a 1-hour job to inspect both cylinders. It is a 25-hour job per cylinder to rework and cut the section form the housing.
NOTE: U.S. and Canadian Dealers Only - Eligible dealers may enter a Type 2 SIMS Report.
Parts Disposition
The 6" × 6" section cut/torched from the 9J9279 Housing Assembly, that contains the the heat code and part number, must be returned to your normal core depot with the Core Credit Request to recieve core credit for the 0R1784 Cylinder Housing Assembly.
