Obtain the service reps Goodwill Approver Code before completing the repair. EAME dealers should use their standard Industry Group specific goodwill approval codes. The Goodwill Approver Code must be included when submitting the claim. |
NOTE: | When reporting the repair, use "PS90235" as the Part Number and "7777" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as Warranty Claim Description and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. |

PROBLEM
The existing alternator guard that is use on certain 797F Off-Highway Trucks is a two piece unit that bolts together. The mounting tabs can fail and eventually allow the guard to fall off. When the guard falls off, the alternator and alternator drive belt are more exposed to damaging elements. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If the guard is found damaged, cracked or missing, temporarily remove the alternator and replace the existing mounting bracket with the new bracket, reinstall the alternator, and install the improved guard assembly. Use new mounting hardware for reinstallation. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. |

If the alternator drive belt or tensioner assembly is worn, replace them at this time. Include those parts in the claim, and provide a suitable story within the claim. |
PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling. |
Follow all safety rules and steps to properly prepare the vehicle for service. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance". Disable the electrical system. Remove the old guard assembly. Remove the alternator drive belt. Remove the alternator and surrounding attachments to allow access to the alternator mounting bracket. Remove the mounting bracket. |

Use new hardware to install the new mounting bracket to the engine. Install the alternator and surrounding hardware. Install the drive belt. If the drive belt or tensioned is worn, install a new one at this time. Install the new alternator guard. |
