ACTION REQUIRED
Some general guidelines regarding SOS results should be followed before the decision is made to remove the complete differential group for repairs. Monitor the truck if the oil samples show 60 ppm of copper in two consecutive samples, with no high iron detected. Do not remove the differential for repair, continue to monitor future samples. Only remove the differential for repair if you find the following conditions: ? Copper continues to trend upwards past 100 ppm for three consecutive sample intervals AND ? Differential is at or above 5000 hours since new or rebuild. If, the differential must to be removed due to high copper, iron in the SOS, or customer/dealer concerns collect the following information: ? Past SOS data ? Current differential hours ? Thrust washer thickness measurements ? Pictures and failure reports ? Failure analysis reports Contact your local technical representative for approval prior to starting any work. |
