Troubleshooting Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    (2) 423-6434 Liquid Level Sensor Gp
    (3) 501-7449 Adapter As

  1. Unscrew the drain plug (A) at the bottom of the fuel filter (1) to drain the water.

  2. Wait at least 5 seconds.

Note: Repeat this process several times to ensure that the water is drained out of the filter.

  3. Cycle the key and check for error codes.

  4. If there is still a code given, disassemble the 501-7449 Adapter As (3) from the filter without unscrewing the 423-6434 Liquid Level Sensor Gp (2).

  5. Clean the Liquid Level Sensor Probe.

Note: Make sure that there is no debris or excessive water on probe surface.

  6. Let air dry, then reinstall.

  7. Cycle the key. If error code still present, replace the liquid level sensor group.

  8. When replacing fuel filter, do not disassemble the sensor from the adapter. This method saves the plastic threads from excessive wear and potential cracking due to overtightening.

  9. Check for rust covering the sensor probe. Thoroughly clean the probe to prolong the life of the sensor.

  10. If the liquid level sensor group needs replaced, use the same part number and torque to 2.5 ± 0.5 N·m (22.1 ± 4.4 lb in).
