Adding the Jacket Water Coolant Pressure Monitor to the Digital Control Unit {191W, 7451}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The jacket water pressure alarm map changed between software revisions and created nuisance alarms.

Solution

Disable the Jacket Water Pressure Alarm in the ECM and add a new alarm map in the Digital Control Unit configuration.

  1. Use a Comm Adapter to connect to the primary ECM using Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Click Service under the file menu and select Monitoring System.

  2. Expand the Engine Coolant Pressure – Data Low monitor and click the word ON next to Monitoring State and select the OFF state.

  3. After selecting OFF, press the button at the bottom of the screen labeled "Program ECM".

  4. Next connect to the DCU over Ethernet follow the instructions from LEBM0063.

  5. After you have connected to the DCU. Click DCU and login (the default password is 1234).

  6. Next navigate to I/O Configuration - J1939

  7. Add the SPN# 109 and click search.

  8. Under the J1939 bar click the “Coolant Pressure”.

  9. Copy the field for the JW Pressure monitor as shown in 9.

  10. When all the fields have been completed, click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.
