Procedure for Installing a Beacon Relay on Certain 320, 323, 330, and 336 Excavators {1408, 1431, 7301}

Usage:

323 (S/N: BR91-UP; DWF1-UP; YBL1-UP; RAZ1-UP)
330 (S/N: KEL1-UP; PFN1-UP; LHW1-UP)
336 (S/N: JHD1-UP; YBN1-UP; DKS1-UP; GDY1-UP)

Introduction

This Special Instruction details the procedure to install a beacon relay on the machines listed above.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the key for the battery disconnect switch. Use a secure padlock in order to lock the battery compartment access door.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.

Personal injury or death can result from improper maintenance procedures. To avoid injury or death, follow the procedures exactly as stated below.

Climbing equipment may be required to access this service point. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mounting and Dismounting" topic for safety information.


------ WARNING! ------

Before servicing/performing maintenance on the machine, electrical power must be physically disconnected; battery plugs must be disconnected from the batteries, or the trailing cable must be unplugged, and warning tags and padlocks shall be applied by a certified electrician. Certified electricians shall perform or direct any electrical work, including any energized testing, repair work in controllers, motors, or other approved compartments, and shall insure that all compartments are properly closed and inspected prior to re-energization. All applicable lock out and tag out procedures must be followed.

Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.


------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.

Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel and lower the implement to the ground.

Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from machine or in view of the operator.

Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions to release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  1. Install the beacon relay (2) on the relay socket (B).

  2. Connect the plug assembly (E) into 24v outlet on back of cab.

    Connect to beacon switch, "607 PK", "607 PK", "607 PK", "603 PK", "199 OR", "200 BK"

  3. Install and connect the rocker switch (1) to the switch harness as shown in Illustration 5.

  4. Secure wiring with cable strap (F) as shown in Illustration 5.

Note: Rocker switch (1), beacon relay (2), and warning beacon lamp group (3) are not installed at the factory.
