    (1) Drain Plug

  1. Remove magnetic drain plug (1) from the bottom of the transmission. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

  2. Inspect the magnetic drain plug for large particles of debris. An excessive amount of debris may be an indication of possible failure. Discolored oil or oil with an odor requires a careful analysis of S·O·S results. If large particles are found, consult your Caterpillar dealer for further analysis and additional guidance.

  3. After the oil has drained from the transmission case, clean the drain plug before reinstalling the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug to 90 ± 13 N·m (66 ± 10 lb ft).

    (2) Filler Tube and Dipstick

  4. Fill filler tube (2) with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".

  5. Make sure that the vehicle is on level ground. Make sure that the transmission is in NEUTRAL. Start the engine and operate the engine at LOW IDLE. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.

  6. Remove dipstick (2) and check the oil level with the oil warm and the transmission in the NEUTRAL position.

  7. Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.

  8. Install the dipstick.

  9. Maintain the oil to the correct level at all times.
