Issues With the Wiring of the Generator Space Heater on Certain Flex Generator Packages {7274}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Generator space heater group may be wired incorrectly in 240 V parallel instead of 120 V series connection on the above mentioned generator set packages.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim action, execute the following rework procedure to ensure the correct wiring (120 V series operation) to the 486-4557 Space Heater Gp.

Rework Instructions:

  1. Remove the control panel on the left side by removing eight M6 bolts, two M6 nuts, and washer using 8 mm socket.

  2. Lift the cover upwards, pull out the bottom and slide off the top two studs.

    (1) Jumper

  3. Remove the orange jumper from HTR L1 to HTR H3 and orange jumper from HTR H4 to HTR L2.

  4. Place one orange jumper in HTR H3 to HTR H4. Ensure that the jumper is fully seated on the position. Refer to Illustration 2 for proper orange jumper position.

  5. Discard the other orange jumper.

  6. Place the control panel cover to the original position and reinstall the 8 mm bolts, nut, and washer.
