Service and Parking Brake (Front) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the front wheel, bearings, and Duo-Cone seals.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto service brake assembly (1). The weight of service brake assembly (1) is approximately 1581 kg (3486 lb).

    Note: The bolt of Tooling (A) must be cut to a length of 90 mm (3.5 inch) for proper thread engagement

  2. Remove 10 nuts (2) and 40 nuts (3).

  3. Remove service brake assembly (1) from the wheel spindle .

  4. Remove O-ring seal (4) from service brake assembly (1).

  5. Remove bolts (5). Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove bracket (6) from the wheel spindle. The weight of bracket (6) is approximately 127 kg (280 lb).

    Note: Mark the position of bracket (6) for installation purposes.

  6. Remove O-ring seal (7) from bracket (6).

  7. Remove bushing (8) and bushing (9).

Installation procedure

  1. Install service brake assembly (1) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Install bottom bushing (9) with the parting slit outboard. Install bushing (9) flush with the outer surface.

    2. Install top bushing (8) with the parting slit inboard.

    3. Apply chassis grease onto the inner diameter of bushings (9) and (8).

    4. Tighten 10 nuts (2) to a torque of 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft).

    5. Tighten 40 nuts (3) to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (664 ± 74 lb ft).
