Information

Wear a hard hat, protective glasses, and other protective equipment, as required. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can snag on controls or on other parts of the equipment. Make sure that all protective guards and all covers are secured in place on the equipment.

Know the appropriate work site hand signals and the personnel that are authorized to give the hand signals. Accept hand signals from one person only.

Obey all local regulations for the disposal of liquids.

Do not allow unauthorized personnel on the equipment.

Unless you are instructed otherwise, perform maintenance with the equipment in the servicing position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the procedure for placing the equipment in the servicing position.

Crushing Prevention and Cutting Prevention

Support the equipment properly before you perform any work or maintenance beneath that equipment. Do not depend on the hydraulic cylinders to hold up the equipment. Equipment can fall if a control is moved, or if a hydraulic line breaks.

Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

The 423-1743 Cylinder Head Lifting Device is used to lift cylinder heads in the horizontal position without the use of lifting eyes or brackets that require additional hardware. The 423-1743 Cylinder Head Lifting Device is ideal for high volume cylinder rebuild areas that require frequent movement of components.

Operation Section

The C175 Cylinder Head Lifting Device weighs 4kg (9 lb)

  1. Identify the load and weight of the device to be lifted. Do not exceed the Working Load Limit (WLL) of 91 kg (200 lb).

  1. If the head is used, the snap ring for the cylinder head harness connector must be removed as shown in Figure 1. Push the connector into the intake cavity.

  1. Position the Lifting Device at a slight angle into the intake cavity. Then position the polymer surface of the Lifting Device flat against the Cylinder Head surface, pushing forward until the rear plate sits flush against the flat surface on the side of the casting.

  1. Attach a suitable overhead hoist to the Lifting Device. Slowly lift the Cylinder Head. Carefully observe the component to verify that shifting does not occur.

Note: The (Working Load Limit) WLL of the hoist or lifting device used for this step should be more than the weight of the machine component being lifted and all the tooling used to lift it.

Inspection and Maintenance Section

Inspection

  1. Inspect tooling prior to each use for damage, bending, nicks, burrs, dents, cracks, bent or worn parts. If damage is found, destroy the tool and dispose of as scrap. Replace damaged tool with new product.

  1. Do not use unless the Working Load Limit (WLL) identification markings are legible.

  1. Do not use if any holes are elongated or deformed.

  1. Do not use if hardware is damaged or missing.

  1. Have the tool inspected annually by an approved dealership inspector. Maintain a written record of all inspections.

Cleaning

Clean tools using a high quality cleaning fluid. Allow to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on tools, which can result in contamination of precision engine components.

Storage

  1. Store the tooling in a clean, dry location to prevent rust or corrosion. Tooling can be damaged by moisture or high humidity.

  1. The tool should be stored in the most stable position.

Tool Disposal

At the end of the operational life of the tool, destroy the tool and dispose of as scrap.
