Description of Change:

Illustration 1g02158592

A new crankshaft has been introduced. The new crankshaft has an improved power take off drive capability.

A new short engine has been introduced as a result of the introduction of the new crankshaft. If a replacement short engine is required, refer to table 1 for more information.

The front end of the crankshaft has been shortened by 38 mm (1.5 inch) to accept a standard crankshaft adaptor (1). All crankshaft pulleys and vibration dampers are compatible with the standard crankshaft adaptor. The standard crankshaft adaptor is secured to the crankshaft with three fasteners. There is no need for the split-lock ring components to be used with the new crankshaft and the standard crankshaft adaptor. For more information, refer to table 2.

There will be three new connecting rods introduced with the new crankshaft. Refer to Engine News, SEBD9680, "New Connecting Rod for the C6.6 Engine" for more information.

Typical example

For engines that have the axial accessory drive installed, two shims (2) and (3) are required. Shim (3) is located between the crankshaft and the crankshaft gear. Shim (2) is located between the crankshaft gear and the standard crankshaft adaptor. Both shims are 0.1 mm (0.00394 inch) in thickness.

To remove and install the shims, follow the procedure below:

  1. Remove the vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove" for the correct procedure.

  1. Remove the front seal from the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. If a shim (2) is installed, inspect the shim for wear or damage. If the shim has wear or damage, replace the shim.

  1. Remove the crankshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Gear - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. If a shim (3) is installed, inspect the shim for wear or damage. If the shim has wear or damage, replace the shim.

  1. Install the crankshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Gear - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. Install the existing or replacement shim (2) .

  1. Install the front seal from the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. Install the vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove" for the correct procedure.

Adaptable To: The new crankshaft was introduced from engine serial numbers 666 16608, E6M02716, and SAX00372.

New 374-9163 Crankshaft Gp replaces 276-7387 Crankshaft .

The 342-6507 Shim is located between the crankshaft gear and the standard crankshaft adaptor.

The 342-6508 Shim is located between the crankshaft and the crankshaft gear.

Note: When a new crankshaft front seal is installed to 374-9163 Crankshaft, ensure that 366-5984 Seal Installer is used.
