Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the V-belts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-belts - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Make temporary identification marks on the connections of the harness assembly.

  3. Disconnect the harness assembly from alternator (13).

  4. Remove bolt (8) and washer (9).

  5. Remove locking nut (1) and washer (2). Remove bolt (10) from alternator (13). Remove the alternator from alternator bracket (4).

  6. If necessary, remove locking nut (5) and remove bolts (12), washer (6) and spacer (7). Remove adjusting link (11) from the housing.

  7. If necessary, remove bolts (3) and remove alternator mounting bracket (4) from the cylinder head.

  8. If necessary, remove the pulley from the alternator. Follow Step 8.a through Step 8.b for the method in order to remove the pulley from the alternator.

    Note: This method may not be suitable for some configurations of pulley.

    1. Hold the shaft of alternator (13) with an allen wrench. Use a cranked ring spanner (box wrench) in order to loosen nut (15).

    2. Remove nut (15) and pulley (14) from alternator (13).

Installation Procedure

  1. If necessary, install the pulley to the alternator. Follow Step 1.a and Step 1.b for the method in order to install the pulley to the alternator.

    Note: This method may not be suitable for some configurations of pulley.

    1. Install pulley (14) and nut (15) to the shaft of alternator (13).

    2. Hold the shaft of the alternator with an allen wrench. Use a cranked ring spanner (box wrench) in order to tighten nut (15). Tighten the nut to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  2. If necessary, position mounting bracket (4) onto the cylinder head. Install bolts (3) and tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 N·m (33 lb ft).

  3. If necessary, install bolts (12) to adjusting link (11) for the alternator and spacer (7). Position adjusting link (11) onto the housing. Install washer (6) and a new locking nut (5) hand tight.

  4. Install alternator (13) to bracket (4) and install bolt (10), washer (2) and a new locking nut (1) hand tight.

  5. Install bolt (8) and washer (9) through adjusting link (11) hand tight.

  6. Install the V-belts. Refer to the Disassembly and assembly, "V-belts - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  7. Tighten nut (1) and bolt (8) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

    Tighten nut (5) to a torque of 44 N·m (33 lb ft).

  8. Connect the harness assembly to alternator (4).

  9. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
