Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.
- Disconnect water inlet connection (1) from water pump (3) .

- Remove bolts (2) .
- Remove bolts (6) .
- Remove elbow (4), tube (7), and elbow (8) as a unit. Check the gaskets and the O-ring seal for wear or damage. If necessary, replace the gaskets.
- Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to water pump (3). The weight of water pump (3) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Remove bolts (5) that hold water pump (3) to the front housing. Remove water pump (3) .
- Remove the O-ring seal from water pump (3). Check the O-ring seal for wear or damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seal.
