Note: The water pump seal can be replaced when the water pump is mounted on the engine. Use the following procedure to replace the water pump seal.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.
- Disconnect elbow (1) from the tube and water pump (2). Remove elbow (1) .

- Remove the coupling and flange (3) .
- Remove bolts (9) and housing (4) .

- Remove O-ring seal (8) from the housing.
- Loosen bolt (5) that holds impeller (7) in place. Do not remove the bolt.
- Use a block and Tooling (A) to put tension on impeller (7). Tap on the center of the block in order to loosen impeller (7) on the shaft.
- Remove the following components from the shaft: bolt (5), washer (6) and impeller (7) .
- Remove seal group (10) .
