NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

  1. Inspect the cylinder liner. Refer to Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, "Cylinder Liners for 3600 Engines".

  1. Use Tooling (G) in order to measure the cylinder liner's inside diameter at four locations. The cylinder liner should be measured at two points that are separated by 90 degrees at each location. Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Liner".

  1. Remove the rust and/or deposits from the outside surface of the cylinder liner. Use glass beads or a wire brush.

  1. Thoroughly clean the cylinder liner bore in the cylinder block. Apply liquid soap to the sealing surfaces.

  1. Install O-ring seal (2) and O-ring seals (3) on cylinder liner (1) .

  1. Apply Tooling (E) or liquid soap to the O-ring seals.

  1. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to the cylinder liner. The weight of the cylinder liner is approximately 100 kg (220 lb).

  1. Carefully lower the cylinder liner into the cylinder block. Lower the cylinder liner until the lower O-ring seals of the cylinder liner enter the seal bore in the cylinder block.

  1. Remove Tooling (C). Tap the top of the cylinder liner with a large rubber mallet in order to seat the cylinder liner in the cylinder block. Tooling (D) is also available in order to seat the cylinder liner in the cylinder block.

End By: Install the piston and connecting rod. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston and Connecting Rods - Install".
