Assembly Procedure

  1. Thoroughly clean metal parts in solvent and dry the metal parts with compressed air. Clean the inside of the accumulator with a clean cloth that is free of lint and soaked in clean solvent.

  1. Inspect all metal parts for cracks, burrs, damaged threads, or other damage. Use a crocus cloth in order to remove scratches, nicks, and light scoring from the metal parts. Replace all O-rings, backup rings, Teflon piston rings, and V-ring seals. Coat all internal parts with clean hydraulic oil.

  1. Install V-ring seal (7) and the backup rings on piston (9) . Install two Teflon piston rings (6) and (8) on the piston.

Note: Do not damage the V-ring seal during installation of the piston. Install the piston slowly.

  1. Install piston (9) into the accumulator with the hollow side of the piston toward the gas end of the accumulator. Use a suitable hammer and a wood block in order to install the piston 50.8 mm (2.0 inch) below the start of the bore.

Note: Do not damage the O-ring seal on the threads during installation of the end cap. Extreme tightness of the end cap is not required because the O-ring seal is not dependent upon the tightness of the end cap.

  1. Install a new backup ring and O-ring seal (10) onto end cap (11) . Install end cap (11) into the accumulator. Tighten end cap (11) to a torque of 215 ± 30 N·m (160 ± 22 lb ft).

  1. Install a new backup ring and O-ring seal (5) onto end cap (4) . Install end cap (4) into the accumulator. Tighten end cap (4) to a torque of 215 ± 30 N·m (160 ± 22 lb ft).

  1. Install the O-ring seal to gas valve (3) . Install gas valve (3) into end cap (4) . Tighten gas valve (3) to a torque of 35 ± 1.5 N·m (310 ± 14 lb in). Install the cap on the gas valve.

  1. Install protector (2) and two bolts (1) .

End By: Install the brake accumulators. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Brake Accumulators - Install".
