Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Turn the red handle of the fuel shutoff valve in order to shut off the fuel supply. The red handle is below the fuel tank.
- Open the access cover for the engine compartment. The access cover is located on the right side of the machine.

Illustration 2 g01229877 - Loosen the retaining bolt for the filter housing case.
- Remove the filter with a strap wrench. Remove the case and remove the element from the case.
- Clean the filter mounting base with clean, nonflammable solvent. Make sure that all of the old seal is removed.
- Coat the seal of the new filter element with clean diesel fuel.
- Install the new filter element by hand.
Instructions for the installation of the filters are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.
- Open the fuel shutoff valve.
- Prime the fuel system.
