Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component. |
The fuel system water separator is located on the front right side of the engine.

Water separator bowl (2) should be monitored daily for signs of water. If water is present, drain the water from the bowl.
- Open the right engine access door.
- Place drain hose (4) on the outside of the machine.
- Open drain valve (3). The drain is a self-ventilated drain. Catch the draining water in a suitable container. Dispose of the water properly.
- Close drain valve (3).
- Reposition drain hose (4).
- Close the engine access door.

The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Ensure that the drain valve is tightened securely to help prevent air from entering the fuel system. |
