The components of the engine start circuit are the key start switch, the Power Train/Chassis Electronic Control Module (Power Train/Chassis ECM), the start relay magnetic switch, the electric starting motor, the electric starting motor solenoid, the parking brake switch and the Engine Electronic Control Module (Engine ECM).

With the battery disconnect switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker #1 to the Power Train/Chassis ECM. 24 volt power is also supplied via circuit breaker #4 to key start switch (1) and Engine ECM (2) .
With the key start switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker #12 to the Engine ECM. Power is also supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker #13 to Power Train/Chassis ECM (3).

The machine will not crank unless the following conditions exist:
- The transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position.
- The parking brake switch is in the ENGAGED position.
When key start switch (1) is in the START position, Power Train/Chassis ECM (3) supplies 24 volt power to energize start relay magnetic switch (5). When start relay magnetic switch (5) is energized, power is supplied to electric starting motor solenoid (7) via alternator circuit breaker (4). Electric starting motor (6) will begin to crank.
