Transmission and Torque Converter - Separate

Start By:

  1. Remove the transmission hydraulic control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Transmission Hydraulic Control) - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the transmission and torque converter assembly. The weight of the transmission and torque converter assembly is approximately 923 kg (2035 lb).

  1. Position the transmission and torque converter assembly onto Tooling (A) .

  1. Remove bolts (1), cover assembly (2), and the gasket.

  1. Remove bolt (3) and tube assembly (4) .

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (5), (7), and (8). Remove tube assembly (6) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (9) .

  1. Attach Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to transmission (10). The weight of transmission (10) is approximately 680 kg (1500 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (11) and (13). Separate transmission (10) from the torque converter (12) .

  1. Remove O-ring seals (14). Remove tube (16) and O-ring seals (15) .
