623G Wheel Tractor-Scraper Hydraulic System Caterpillar

Relief Valve (Main) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

623G ARW

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil under pressure.

Hydraulic oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine when the pressure is suddenly released.

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.

Remove the fill plug only when the engine is stopped, and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from spring force released when removing cap screws.

Internal spring force will be released when cylinder assembly cap screws are removed causing injury.

Always restrain cover as cap screws are loosened.

Follow the established procedure in the Service Manual to service these parts.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing And Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".

(3) Test port

  1. Connect tooling (A) to test port (3) .

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at high idle.

  1. Look at the pressure gauge. Move the joystick control to the bowl RAISE position. Keep the joystick in that position. The highest reading that is obtained is the pressure setting of the relief valve.

  1. The correct pressure setting of the relief valve is 17465 ± 465 kPa (2533 ± 67 psi).

Note: On a test bench, the pressure setting of the relief valve is 17300 ± 300 kPa (2500 ± 44 psi).

Note: The relief pressure should also be 17465 ± 465 kPa (2533 ± 67 psi) when the joystick control is in any of the following positions:

    • Bowl LOWER position

    • Ejector FORWARD position

    • Ejector RETURN position

Note: If you must change the setting of the relief valve, loosen nut (1B) and turn retainer assembly (1A). One complete turn of retainer assembly (1A) will change the pressure approximately 7000 kPa (1015 psi).

  1. When you have completed the test, disconnect the test equipment from the machine.
