Some of the above engines are equipped with either a Caterpillar, Delco-Remy or Prestolite starting motor and solenoid. If a replacement starting motor group is ordered, it is possible to get any one of these starting motor groups. For each individual engine the Caterpillar, Delco-Remy, and Prestolite starting motor groups are interchangeable (direct replacements). But, the parts within these three groups are not interchangeable.

The current Parts Books do not show the Caterpillar starting motor groups or their individual components.

Location of parts.

Identification of the Caterpillar starting motors can be made by either of the numbers shown in Chart A.
