Be careful not to cause damage to the radiator core assembly when the guard assemblies and fan are removed. |
1. Remove guard assemblies (1) from the radiator.
2. Remove the eight bolts that fasten the fan (2) to the adapter. The fan is put against the radiator core.
3. Loosen the alternator mounting bolt and the nuts on the belt tension adjustment rod (4). Remove vee belts (3).
4. Remove the six nuts that fasten adapter (5) to the fan drive hub. Remove adapter (5). There is an O-ring seal between adapter and fan drive hub. Remove fan (2).
5. Remove four bolts (6) fan drive (8) and spacer (7) from the front of the cylinder head.
Install Fan And Fan Drive
1. Install spacer (1) and fan drive (2) in position on the cylinder head.

Be careful not to cause damage to the radiator core assembly when fan (3) is put against it. |
2. Put fan (3) in position against the radiator core assembly.
3. Make sure the O-ring seal is in position on adapter between the adapter and the fan drive hub. Install adapter (4) on the fan drive hub.
4. Install vee belts (5) on the pulleys.
5. Install fan (3) on adapter.
6. Make an adjustment to the belt tension with a belt tension gauge, such as a Burroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-72C, or equivalent. The correct gauge indication is 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb.) for a new belt. Operate the engine at high idle for a minimum of 30 minutes, then make another adjustment to the belt tension. The correct tension for a used belt is a gauge indication of 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb.). Tighten adjusting nuts (2).
NOTE: Used belt tension is for a belt which has more than 30 minutes of operation at rated speed of the engine.
Typical Example
7. Install guard assemblies (6) on the radiator.
