Product Support Program For Replacing The Front Or Rear Axle Final Drive Ring Gears In Certain 966F Loaders Caterpillar

NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8053" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: Although this Program is to be administered as described above on the Affected Product, parts should be removed from Parts Stock as soon as possible.

Termination Date

Problem

The 8R1890 Ring Gear in either the front or rear axle final drives of certain 966F Loaders may crack under certain conditions.

Remove all 8R1890 Ring Gears from

Affected Product

Before Failure (Front Axle Only)

Remove the existing 8R1890 Ring Gears from both front axle final drives and install two new 1103252 Ring Gears following procedures in the Service Manual.

After Failure (Front or Rear Axle)

Remove the existing 8R1890 Ring Gears from both final drives of either the front or rear axle, and install two new 1103252 Ring Gears following procedures in the Service Manual.

NOTE: If an axle housing has been damaged as a result of the failure of an 8R1890 Ring Gear, install a new 1101488 Ring Gear along with the appropriate new axle housing in that final drive. On the undamaged final drive on the opposite end of the axle being reworked, install a new 1103252 Ring Gear. Follow the procedures in the Service Manual.

Submit one claim for all 8R1890 Ring Gears removed from Parts Stock.

NOTE: US and Canadian Dealers Only - When submitting a Parts Stock claim use 99Z00001 in the Product Identification Number Field.
