Rework Procedure

Reinforce each joint where the grab handle is attached to the hood by welding two 1138332 Plates to the outside of the hood around the bae of the brab handle as shown in the illustration below:

1. Buff the paint from 1 inch of the base of the grab handle and from an 8-inch square area on the hood centered around each grab handle joint.

2. Position two 1138332 Plates around each grab handle at the joint. Maintain a 5mm gap between pieces as shown in the illustration.

3. Weld square grooves at gap between plates, the 5mm fillet around the plate outside diameter to the hood, and the 3mm fillet around the grab handle to the plates as shown in the illustration.

4. Grind the square groove welds flush with the plate surfaces.

5. Wire brush the welds and adjacent metal.

6. Sand the metal surfaces to prepare for painting. Featheredge the painted surfaces. Clean the surfaces to be painted.

7. Paint all bare metal, blending the new paint into the old paint. Use multiple passes as required. Paint areas inside the hood where paint was burned by welding.
