Start By:
- Remove the accumulator. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Accumulator - Remove".
Note: Ensure that the pressure in the accumulator has been released.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, thoroughly clean the exterior of the components to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Sudden release of nitrogen pressure can cause personal injury. To avoid personal injury, release the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator before disassembly. |
- Position the accumulator assembly onto a suitable fixture with base (3) on top.
Note: If necessary, use the accumulator mounting holes to prevent movement of the accumulator assembly.
- Remove seal (1).
- Remove bolts (2).
- Use two people to remove base (3) from cover (5). Refer to Table 1 for the approximate weight of base (3) and cover (5).
