Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
- Remove two bolts (4) from water temperature regulator housing (1).

- Remove water temperature regulator housing (1) and the gasket. Inspect the gasket for damage. If the gasket is damaged, use a new part for replacement.
- Remove water temperature regulator (2) .
Note: Visually check the configuration of water temperature regulator (2) for installation purposes. Ensure that pin (3) is facing upward. Water temperature regulator (2) will not operate properly if the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly.
- Test water temperature regulator (2), if necessary. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting Module, "Water Temperature Regulator - Test" topic for information on testing the water temperature regulator.

- Clean the gasket material and any debris from the seat for water temperature regulator (2) .

- Put water temperature regulator (2) in position while ensuring that pin (3) faces upward.
- Install the gasket and water temperature regulator housing (1). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" topic for more information.
