CB7 and CB8 Asphalt Compactor Propel System Caterpillar

Travel Speed - Check

Usage:

CB7 AT5

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts.

Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them.

Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel.

  1. Establish a 30.5 m (100 ft) straight speed test course. Make sure that the course provides sufficient distance for the machine to reach full speed before the machine passes the starting line and sufficient distance for the machine to be stopped after the finish line is passed.

  2. Drive the machine to the test area.

  3. Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  4. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  5. Place the engine in high idle.

    1. Select "Main Menu" (3) on the machine display.

    2. Select "Machine Setup" (4).

    3. Select "Engine Spd Sw" (5).

      Illustration 4g06166808

    4. Select "High" (6).

  6. Operate the hydraulic system until the oil temperature reaches the test temperature of 45 °C (113 °F).

  7. Make sure that the vibratory system is OFF.

  8. Use propel speed range control switch (7) to shift the propel motors into the LOW SPEED position.

Note: Two things indicate when the propel motors are in the LOW SPEED position. First, "Propel Mode Low" will appear on the display. Second, one LED next to propel speed range control switch (7) will be illuminated.

  9. Use speed control switches (8) to set the propel speed to 100 percent.

Note: Two things indicate when the propel speed is set to 100 percent. First, "Speed Control % 100" will appear on the display. Second, seven LEDs next to speed control switches (8) will be illuminated.

  10. Move parking brake switch (2) to the OFF position.

  11. Back up the machine far enough to reach full speed before the start line.

  12. Use Tool (B) to time the machine through the 30.5 m (100 ft) course. The machine should complete the course in 15.7 ± 1.2 seconds.

  13. Repeat the test in reverse. The forward and reverse times should be within 1.5 seconds of each other.

  14. Use propel speed range control switch (7) to shift the propel motors into the HIGH SPEED position.

Note: Two things indicate when the propel motors are in the HIGH SPEED position. First, "Propel Mode High" will appear on the display. Second, two LEDs next to propel speed range control switch (4) will be illuminated.

  15. Use speed control switches (8) to set the propel speed to 100 percent.

  16. Repeat the test in forward and in reverse. The machine should complete the course in 9.1 ± 1.0 seconds. The forward and reverse times should be within 1.5 seconds of each other.

  17. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  18. Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  19. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  20. Place the engine in ECO mode or in low idle.

  21. Move engine start switch (9) to the OFF position.

Note: If the travel speed is outside the specified range, possible troubleshooting procedures include: perform the pressure tests on the propel pump, test the case drain flow on the propel motors and calibrate the propel pump thresholds.
