Usage:

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.


------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts.

Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them.

Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel.


------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: To perform this test and adjust, the brakes must be disconnected, or the machine must be placed on jack stands.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  2. Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  4. Place the engine in ECO mode or low idle.

    1. Select "Main Menu" (3) on the machine display.

    2. Select "Machine Setup" (4).

    3. Select "Engine Spd Sw" (5).

    4. Select "ECO" (6) or "Low" (7).

  5. Move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position.

  6. Unlock latch (9) and open engine compartment door (10) on the right side of the machine.

  7. Disconnect brake supply hose assembly (11) at the two propel motors. Use Tool (D) to cap the port. Use Tool (E) to plug the hose.

  8. Mark the electrical connections. Disconnect solenoid electrical connections (12).

  9. Assemble the tooling. Connect Tool (C) to Tool (B). Assemble two sets of Tool (C) and Tool (B).

  10. Install one Tool (A) on each Tool (B).

  11. Remove the plug from port "M4" (13) on the top, right side of the pump.

  12. Install one Tool (F) in port "M4" (13). Tighten Tool (F) to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb·ft).

  13. Remove the plug from port "M5" (14) on the top, left side of the pump.

  14. Install Tool (F) in port "M5" (14). Tighten Tool (F) to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb·ft).

  15. Connect Tool (J) and Tool (K) to Tool (H). Connect Tool (J) to diagnostic connector (15). Connect Tool (K) to USB port on Tool (G).

  16. Move engine start switch (8) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  17. Place the engine in ECO mode or in low idle.

  18. Move parking brake switch (2) to the OFF position.

  19. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes. Place the engine in high idle.

  20. Operate the hydraulic system until the oil temperature reaches the test temperature of 45 °C (113 °F).

  21. Place the engine in ECO mode or in low idle.

    Note: First-time users need to perform the tasks in the Communication and Connections Wizard. This wizard allows the Windows® operating system to recognize the USB device. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  22. Launch the Plus+1TM program on the computer.

  23. Click "Status" button (16).

  24. Check for "Active Codes". Clear any open "Active Codes".

  25. Click "Machine Control" (17).

  26. Click "Hydraulics" icon (18).

  27. Click "Piston Pump Neutral Test" (19).

  28. Click "Piston Pump Neutral Test" (20).

  29. Click "Enable" icon (21).

  30. When "Piston Pump Neutral Test" (20) is in "Enabled" mode, the Plus+1TM program is launched.

  31. Record the differential pressure between port "M5" and port "M4" on Tool (A). Differential pressure should be less than 70 kPa (10 psi).

  32. If the differential pressure is greater than 70 kPa (10 psi) go to Step 33. If, the differential pressure is less than 70 kPa (10 psi) go to Step 35.

    Note: A small movement of the adjustment mechanism is all that will be required. Larger movements may cause machine movement.

  33. Hold adjustment screw (23) and loosen lock nut (22). Watch the pressure gauges. Rotate the adjustment screw until the differential pressure is less than 70 kPa (10 psi).

  34. Hold adjustment screw (23) in place and tighten lock nut (22). Tighten the lock nut to a torque of 10 N·m (7 lb·ft).

  35. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  36. Move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position.

  37. Remove the tooling from port "M5" (14) and port "M4" (13). Replace the plugs. Tighten the plugs to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb·ft).

  38. Remove Tool (E) from brake supply hose assembly (11) at the drum propel motors. Remove Tool (D) from the brake inlet port at the drum propel motors. Connect brake supply hose (11) to the brake inlet ports on the propel motors.

  39. Remove tooling from diagnostic connector (15).

  40. Close engine compartment door (10) on the right side of machine and secure latch (9).
