  10. Push spring pin (8) into planetary shaft (9).

  11. Remove planetary shaft (9), two thrust washers (10), and planetary gear (11) from planetary carrier (6).

  12. Remove bearing (12) from planetary gear (11).

  13. Remove spring pin (8) from planetary shaft (9).

  17. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to axle housing (1). The weight of axle housing (1) is approximately 205 kg (450 lb). Put slight lifting tension on axle housing (1).

Note: Bearing cone (14) which is located under bearing nut (13) will be removed at the same time as axle housing (1).

  18. Install Tooling (F) to axle housing (1). Use the center stud to push the axle shaft and bearing cone (14) from axle housing (1). Make sure that upward pressure is constantly applied.

  19. Remove axle housing (1) and bearing cone (14) from the axle shaft.

  20. Remove bearing cone (14) from axle housing (1).

  21. Remove bearing cup (15) from axle housing (1).

Note: Planetary ring gear (17) will be destroyed during removal.

  22. Remove ring gear (17) from axle housing (1). Use a torch to cut ring gear (17) in two pieces that are directly across from each other. Cut ring gear (17) at the position of locating dowels (16). For an alternate method, make three welds that are equally spaced around the circumference of ring gear (17). This will cause ring gear (17) to shrink.

  23. Remove dowels (16).
