PROBLEM
The existing ECM software has a number of issues that can cause the engine to broadcast nuisance ECM codes. The existing ECM software can cause the following problems: (1) The secondary ECM does not takeover upon failure of the primary ECM when using momentary Start/Stop control. (2) Engine configurations are not being transferred to the secondary ECM. (3) The secondary ECM is not using the 100 kPa default atmospheric pressure when it takes control of the engine. (4) Both primary and secondary starters are initiating at the same time. (5) The Low Fuel Pressure diagnostic is too close to the normal operating pressure of the pump at idle engine speeds and needs to be lowered. (6) Certain customers are receiving nuisance codes for High Air Filter Restriction Pressure. (7) The current default values for overspeed warning/shutdown are too high on Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) and Marine Auxiliary engines. (8) The default exhaust temperature setting in the engine monitor needs changed. (9) If the prelube interval is set to 0, continuous prelube is active. (10) The engine ramp rate has a minimum configurative setting of 200 rpm/second in Cat ET. (11) When the engine is ramping up, individual exhaust temperature "deviation" alarms can activate on cylinders number 1 and number 14. (12) The alarm for "jacket water coolant pressure is low" activates during idle. (13) "Starter Current Below Normal" codes are sometimes activated on the second engine start attempt. (14) The engine will occasionally not start because it is reading a non-zero value for engine speed. (15) SPN 99 does not have a large enough range, so the Caterpillar Marine Power Display (CMPD) cannot display the actual differential oil pressure above 125 kPa. (16) The overspeed test is not functional with the CMPD. (17) The secondary ECM only sends the emergency shutdown command when the primary ECM has the air shut off configured to installed. |

In order to allow equitable parts availability to all participating dealers, please limit your initial parts order to not exceed 7% of dealership population. This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer. |
ACTION REQUIRED
Before beginning the following rework, please review the safety actions in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. If the customer wishes to enable Marine Alarm and Protection (MA&P), first enable the air shut off in the Cat ET configuration screen before installing the new software and then cycle power to the ECM's twice for two minutes in each state to transfer the configuration to the secondary ECM. After the software is installed, go back in the Cat ET configuration screen and disable air shut off on the primary ECM. Replace the existing ECM software. Refer to the Image 1 for new ECM flash file part numbers. |
