Advisor display used by Cat® monitoring system

The Cat® monitoring system:

  • Continuously monitors machine systems

  • Consists of both software and hardware components

  • Communicates with the electronic control modules (ECMs) of other systems via the Cat® Data Link

The hardware components of the standard monitoring system consist of:

  • Instrument Cluster display

  • Advisor display

  • Advisor module

  • VIMSTM ECMs

  • Other ECMs

  • Sensors

  • Payload lamps

The standard monitoring system can indicate warnings that have occurred in the ECMs of the following systems:

  • TPMS ECM

  • Brake ECM

  • Chassis ECM

  • Engine ECM

  • Transmission ECM

The Advisor displays the following information:

  • Machine operating characteristics

  • Diagnostics

  • Service information

  • Warning events

  • Modes of operation

  • Payload information

Instantaneous machine information and lifetime totals as well as the machine condition and performance are constantly gathered by the monitoring system. The Advisor module displays some information on the LCD display. The operator is able to adjust many of the settings to match the machine to the desired application.

Note: Software parameters and specifications are subject to changes without notice.

Functional Test (Self Test)

To ensure the proper operation of the monitoring system, check the system daily.

The battery disconnect switch must be in the ON position.

The self-diagnostic test verifies that the outputs (gauges, indicators, and alarms) are operating correctly.

When the engine start switch key is turned to the ON position, the following systems are tested for approximately one second: indicators, gauges and LCD displays.

The gauges must go to the far right positions. All indicators must illuminate momentarily. All segments of the LCD displays must come on momentarily. The action alarm must sound.

Resetting a Monitoring System Fault

Most warning category 1, warning category 2, and warning category 2S faults can be reset by the operator. Some warning category 3 faults can be reset by the operator.

Reference Troubleshooting, Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, UENR3330, " MT4400D AC Power Train Electronic Control System"

The following conditions must be met to perform the reset procedure:

  • "Actual gear" is in N

  • Ground speed is at zero

  • A throttle command is not active

  • An engine shutdown event is not active

  • DC link voltage is less than 400 V

To perform a reset:

  1. Depress the service brake and move the shift control lever to the N position.

Note: Do not depress the accelerator pedal during the reset procedure.

  1. Move the shift control lever out of the N position and into the R, or F position.

  1. Move the shift control lever back into the N position.

Warnings

If a warning occurs:

  • A message will appear on the Advisor display

  • The corresponding action lamp will illuminate on the dash

  • An audible alarm will sound for Level 3 warning
