Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Water and Sediment - Drain" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Raise hood (1) by activating switch (2). Turn battery disconnect switch (3) to the OFF position.

  3. Disconnect hose assemblies (4).

  4. Remove panel (5).

  5. Remove fill tube (6).

  6. Disconnect hose assembly (7). Disconnect harness assembly (8).

  7. Cut all cable straps (9) that attach harness assembly (10) to fuel tank (11).

  8. Cut cable strap (13). Disconnect hose assembly (12).

  9. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to power train oil cooler (14). The weight of power train oil cooler (14) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).

  10. Remove bolts (15). Slowly lower Tooling (A) and the lifting device. Remove the lifting device from Tooling (A).

    Note: The hoses will support power train oil cooler (14).

  11. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to fuel tank (11). The weight of fuel tank (11) is approximately 172 kg (380 lb).

  12. Remove bolt (16), the washers, and mount (17).

  13. Remove bolt (18), the washers, and mount (19).

  14. Remove bolt (20) and the washer.

  15. Use Tooling (B) and the suitable lifting device in order to lower fuel tank (11) to the ground.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel tank (11) in the reverse order of removal.
