Fan and Fan Drive - Remove and Install

Usage:

587R BXL

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the hood and the dust ejector. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood and Dust Ejector - Remove and Install".
  2. Remove the fan guards. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Guards - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto fan (1). The weight of fan (1) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Remove bolts (2). Position fan (1) out of the way.

  1. Release the tension on the fan drive belts (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fan Drive Belts - Remove". Position fan Drive belts (3) out of the way.

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (4) .

  1. Remove clip (5) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to fan drive (6). Remove bolts (7). Remove fan drive (6). The weight of fan drive (6) is approximately 29 kg (65 lb).

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto fan (!). The weight of fan (1) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Remove fan (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (8). Remove adapter (9) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install adapter (9). Install bolts 8.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto fan (1). The weight of fan (1) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Position fan (1), as shown.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto fan drive (6). The weight of fan drive (6) is approximately 29 kg (65 lb). Install fan drive (6). Install bolts (7) .

  1. Connect hose assembly (4) .

  1. Install fan drive belts (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fan Drive Belts - Install ".

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto fan (1). The weight of fan (1) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Position fan (1), as shown. Install bolts (2) .
