Introduction
In order to ensure reliable operation of the circuit breakers (1), ensure that the harness assembly is properly secured to the circuit breakers (1). Loose connections can be the result of performing either of the following two actions:
- Assembling the mounting hardware in the incorrect location
- Applying the incorrect torque to the mounting hardware
An internal tooth star washer (5) that is located between the wire terminal (2) and the circuit breaker (1) provides the maximum torque retention for the connection.
Proper Assembly Technique
- When an internal tooth star washer (5) is supplied with the circuit breaker (1), ensure that the star washer is placed between the wire terminal (2) and the circuit breaker (1).
- When a flat washer (4) is supplied with the circuit breaker (1), ensure that the flat washer (4) is located between the wire terminal (2) and the screw (6).
- Tighten the joint to the torque value that is recommended in Table 1. Table 1 shows some typical sizes for studs and screws that are found throughout the line of Caterpillar circuit breakers.
- Reinstall fasteners in the original location.
- Ensure that the harness is adequately secured
- For the correct order of assembly for the hardware and the harness, refer to Illustrations 1 through 4.
