Parking Brake Control Cable - Adjust

Usage:

TH82 3JN

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine movement.

Place blocks in front of and behind the wheels to make sure the machine does not move while the parking brakes are disengaged.

----------------------

  1. Park the machine on level ground.

  1. Place wheel blocks in front of the rear wheels and behind the rear wheels. Disengage the parking brake.

  1. Raise the front of the machine in order to adjust the parking brake. Place the jack in a location that will sustain the weight of the machine such as the axle pads. The axle pad should be parallel to the ground. The head of the jack should be against a flat surface. Use a jack which will support the weight of the machine. If the machine is equipped with stabilizers, use the stabilizers to raise the machine.

  1. After you have jacked up the machine to the height that is required for you to perform the work that is needed, place wood blocks for cribbing at suitable locations under the machine. The wood blocks should be placed on a level ground. The wood blocks should provide a large base for support. The wood blocks should be no less than 15 cm (6 inches) wide,15 cm (6 inches) high, and 76 cm (30 inches) long. You should use only wood blocks which will support the weight of your machine.

  1. Once the wood blocks are in place, lower the jack until the machine is supported by the blocks. Make sure that the machine is stable before you proceed to work on the machine.

  1. Raise the boom and support the boom on a suitable stand. If the machine is equipped with boom support Refer to Operators and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7112, "Boom Support".

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Adjusting nuts for the parking brake control are located in the cab under a cover plate on the right side of the seat. Remove the four bolts and four washers that secure the cover plate. Remove the cover plate.

Location of the Stop Bolt for Right Side Front Brake Assembly

  1. Loosen locknut (6) on stop bolt (7) in order to adjust the right side front brake assembly.

  1. Use a flat head screwdriver to turn stop bolt (7) clockwise. Turn stop bolt (7) in 180 degree increments. Pressure will be increased on right side lever (2). The increased pressure will apply the parking brake. Continue to turn the stop bolt until the right side front wheel assembly cannot be rotated by hand.

Note: If the parking brake cannot be fully applied by maximum adjustment of stop bolt (7) it will be necessary to adjust the position of right side lever (2) and left side lever (10). Release all pressure from the lever assemblies by turning stop bolts (7) and (9) fully counterclockwise. Remove right side lever (2) and left side lever (10) from the respective splined shaft. Turn each lever toward the respective stop bolt by one spline. Install right side lever (2) and left side lever (10) onto the respective splined shaft. Continue with the adjusting procedure by repeating Step 12.

  1. Turn stop bolt (7) counterclockwise by two full turns until the brake is released and the right side front wheel assembly can be rotated by hand.

  1. Tighten locknut (6) .

  1. Loosen locknut (8) on stop bolt (9) in order to adjust the left side front brake assembly.

  1. Use a flat head screwdriver to turn stop bolt (9) clockwise. Turn stop bolt (9) in 180 degree increments. Pressure will be increased on left side lever (10). The increased pressure will apply the parking brake. Continue to turn the stop bolt until the left side front wheel assembly cannot be rotated by hand.

  1. Turn stop bolt (9) counterclockwise by two full turns until the brake is released and the left side front wheel assembly can be rotated by hand.

  1. Tighten locknut (8) .

  1. Install the cable for the parking brake control onto right side lever (2). Install pin (4) and nut (3) .

  1. Adjusting nuts (5) on left side lever (10) should be used in order to reduce the slack in the cable. Stop adjustment when either left side lever (10) or the right side lever moves off stop bolts (7) and (9) .

Note: If the required adjustment cannot be obtained with adjusting nuts (5) it may be necessary to adjust right side lever (2) and left side lever (10). Release all pressure from the lever assemblies by turning stop bolts (7) and (9) fully counterclockwise. Remove right side lever (2) and left side lever (10) from the respective splined shaft. Turn each lever inward by one spline. Install right side lever (2) and left side lever (10) onto the respective splined shaft. Repeat the adjusting procedure beginning at Step 12.

  1. Tighten adjusting nuts (5) on the cable for the parking brake control.

  1. Install the cover plate in the cab. Secure the cover plate with four bolts and washers.

  1. Start the engine. Raise the boom slightly and remove the stand. If the machine is equipped with boom support Refer to Operators and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7112, "Boom Support".

  1. Use the jack to raise the machine. Remove the wood blocks and lower the machine to the ground.

  1. Engage the parking brake. Remove the wheel blocks from the rear wheels.
