In the "Cylinder Head - Install" section, the procedure for tightening the cylinder head bolts has been changed. Refer to the following procedure in order to tighten the cylinder head bolts.

  1. Lubricate the following components with 6V-4876 Lubricant : the bolt threads, the underside of the bolt heads and the washers. Install the cylinder head bolts and the washers.

Note: There are currently two types of cylinder head bolts that are being used. The first type is a full shank design that is shown in Illustration 2. The second type is a reduced shank design that is shown in Illustration 3.

Cylinder head bolt with full shank design

Dimension (A) for the full shank design is the following amount: 15.73 mm (0.619 inch)

  1. Tighten the cylinder head bolts with the full shank design according to the following procedure:

    1. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (110 ± 11 lb ft).

    1. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (26) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (110 ± 11 lb ft).

    1. Place an index mark on bolt (1) through bolt (26). Rotate bolt (1) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence for an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn).

    1. Loosen bolt (1) through bolt (26) until the washers are loose under the bolt heads.

    1. Tighten bolt (27) through bolt (33) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (20 ± 5 lb ft).

Cylinder head bolt with reduced shank design

Dimension (B) for the reduced shank design is the following amount: 14.58 mm (0.574 inch)

  1. Tighten the cylinder head bolts with the reduced shank design according to the following procedure:

    1. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 160 ± 15 N·m (120 ± 11 lb ft).

    1. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (26) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 160 ± 15 N·m (120 ± 11 lb ft).

    1. Place an index mark on bolt (1) through bolt (26). Rotate bolt (1) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence for an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn).

    1. Loosen bolt (1) through bolt (26) until the washers are loose under the bolt heads.
