Camshaft

Usage:

(1) Torque for retainer nut for camshaft gear ... 300 lb. ft.(410 N·m)

NOTE: Heat gear to 600° F (316° C) before installing.

(2) Diameter of bearing surface (journal) of the camshaft ... 2.619 to 2.620 in.(66.52 to 66.55 mm)

Bore in bearing for camshaft ... 2.6235 to 2.6260 in.(66.637 to 66.700 mm)

Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and camshaft bearing surface (journal) ... .010 in.(0.25 mm)

End play for the camshaft ... .008 to .012 in.(0.20 to 0.30 mm)

NOTE: Put graphite grease on all cam lobes before installation of followers.

(3) Height of camshaft lobes.

To find lobe height, use the following procedure:

A. Measure camshaft lobe height (3).

B. Measure base circle (5).

C. Subtract base circle (STEP B) from lobe height (STEP A). The difference is actual lobe lift (4).

D. Specified camshaft lobe lift (4) is:

a. Exhaust lobe ... .4030 in.(10.236 mm)
b. Intake lobe ... .4030 in.(10.236 mm)

Maximum permissible difference between actual lobe lift (STEP C) and specified lobe lift (STEP D) is .010 in. (0.25 mm).
