June 2005 EMISSIONS UPGRADE GROUPS FOR SELECT 3300 ENGINE OFF-HIGHWAY APPLICATIONS Announcement Caterpillar announces the release of emissions upgrade groups for specific 3300 engine--off-highway applications. Emissions upgrade groups include the components necessary to upgrade an unregulated engine to US EPA Tier 1 emissions levels. The upgrade groups are released as kits and can be used by Caterpillar? Dealers during engine overhaul. The primary components are the turbocharger, fuel pump/governor, nozzles, and cylinder packs. The servicing dealer must follow specific installation instructions and submit a validation form to Caterpillar in order to receive an emissions label for the engine. Features and Benefits Lower Emissions - Caterpillar has validated that unregulated 3306 engines can meet Tier 1 emissions levels when the emissions components, designed for previously certified Tier 1 3306 engines, are properly installed by a Caterpillar Dealer. Caterpillar Inc. can provide average emission data, however if actual emission levels are needed an emission test will be needed on that engine. Installation - The emissions upgrade groups are released as "paper" kits. The kits include all of the emissions upgrade parts needed to achieve Tier 1 emissions levels. The fuel pump and governor are pre-assembled and tested. The dealer will need to set the fuel pump to the correct setting using a dyno and the test spec. The kit parts are adaptable to the original air lines and muffler design. Validation - After the installation process is completed, an emissions label will be provided. The label will be an indicator in the field that the engine can achieve lower emissions levels than the original design. Reliability - The emissions upgrade groups include the same proven components that are used on later model Tier 1 engines. Serviceability - The engine will receive a new arrangement number and information label. Maintenance schedules will not change. Coverage The following table includes the
current applications. Additional solutions for different applications
are scheduled for release during 2005. Show/hide table
1 These are "paper" kits so all part numbers will have to be ordered individually. The most current consist can be viewed using TMI.
