NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4807" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the August 17, 1992 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Parts Needed and Action Required.

Termination Date

The cover for the wastegate on the turbine housing of the turbocharger on certain 3306C Truck Engines may loosen.

Action Required
Check the turbocharger information plate to verify if the turbine housing needs to be replaced.
NOTE: Not all engines within the serial number range require the turbocharger housing to be replaced.
1. Find the date code on the turbocharger information plate. See the illustration.
Example:
Turbocharger serial number C3BG082 (K0391) A032. The date code for the turbocharger is November 03, 1991. This turbocharger turbine housing must be replaced.
Turbochargers with a date code starting with C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, or L then any two numbers followed by 91 need to have the turbine housing replaced.
2. If the turbocharger serial number plate is difficult to see on the truck, place a magnet against the wastegate cover.
3. If the cover is magnetic, no action is required.
4. If the cover is non-magnetic, the turbine housing must be replaced.
5. Replace the turbine housing as described in the Service Manual.
NOTE: If the existing turbine housing was equipped with a shim, do not install the shim in the new turbine housing.
