Action Required
Determine the lift of each camshaft lobe by placing a dial indicator against the rocker arm adjusting screw directly overthe push rod. Rotate the crankshaft and record the maximum amount of camshaft lobe lift. The minimum allowable lift is 7.747 mm (.3050 "). Record which, if any, of the camshaft lobes are below the minimum lift specification.
NOTE: To obtain an accurate reading, the dial indicator must be directly over the push rod.
If any of the camshaft lobes are below the minimum lift specification, remove the camshaft from the engine. measure the camshaft lift by following the procedure in the Guide Line For Reusable Parts, Camshaft Measurement, SEBF8097. [The maximum permissible difference between the actual lobe lift and the specified lobe lift is 0.64 mm (.025"). Do not use the specifications listed in service Manual.]
If the camshaft lift obtained by following the procedure in the Guide Line For Reusable Parts is below the minimum specification, or if the camshaft is spalled, replace the camshaft and related components. See Parts Needed/Optional Parts Needed. When installing the cylinder head, make sure that the bolts are coated with 6V4876 Molykote.
