Description Of Change: The new software used helps prevent nuisance alarms and improved diagnostics.

Adaptable To:

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

The following changes are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers.

The new 566-9430 Engine Software replaces the previous 542-6405 Engine Software.

Note: An Electronic Control Module (ECM) replacement file is required with flashing new software. If a replacement file is not used, the configuration of the engine will default to the factory settings.

The new software is available in the form of a flashfile through the Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS). A newer part number may be available. SIS Web only displays the latest available flashfile.

The new software has various improvements that are listed below.

Turbocharger Monitoring - Added Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) configurable turbocharger failure detection strategy.

Sensor Diagnostics - Improve sensor diagnostic strategy filters to reduce intermittent tripping of sensor codes leading to a shutdown.

Snapshot Support - Added snapshot feature to improve troubleshooting capability for intermittent issues.

Engine Percentage Load Rounding Fix - Updated the engine percentage load calculation resolution to display the value more accurately for Locomotive applications.

Fuel Consumption and Engine Hours Display Update - Updated total fuel consumption SPN 250 range to prevent calculation from resetting and freezing at 0 L. Updated the engine hours SPN 247 range for similar reason.

Sensor Diagnostic Derate Updates - Nuisance and engine protection diagnostic codes will report a derate and can cause a shutdown.

Pre-lubrication Override Support - Added engine oil pre-lubrication override support to reduce troubleshooting time.

Injector Diagnostic - Improved passive diagnostic strategy.
