The assembly process of the plate stack on the heat exchanger frame uses a hydraulic press. The speed of the hydraulic press has been reduced.
This improved assembly process is effective on the serial numbers listed in Table 2.

The machining of the rear frame now includes grinding chaplet welds flush with the frame cavity. These frame cavities are next to the plate mating ribs.
This improved assembly process is effective on the serial numbers listed in Table 2.

The changes listed above have been made to reduce damage to the rear plate. Rear plate damage result in a jacket water leak at the frame vent hole locations.
High sea water restriction has also shown to increase stresses on the heat exchanger plates. Ensure that sea water inlet and outlet restrictions align with Caterpillar requirements listed in the Application and Installation Guides.
Heat exchangers produced using the new assembly and machining procedures are adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above.
