New Tools Available For Installation Of Crankshaft Seals And Wear Sleeves

Usage:

3512 Engines

New tools are available for installation of the front and rear crankshaft seals and wear sleeves on the 3512 Engine. The new tools are similar to those that are used on other engines. The installation procedure is different for the 3512 Engine.

The front and rear crankshaft seals for the 3512 Engine are lip-type seals with wear sleeves that can be changed. The seal and wear sleeve are shipped as a unit and must be installed together. A new seal and wear sleeve must be installed any time the crankshaft seal is removed.

The crankshaft seal is installed in a seal adapter for installation on the engine. The seal adapter must be removed from the engine to install a new seal.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE: To install the seal and wear sleeve use the procedure that follows:

1. Make sure that the seal bore and crankshaft surfaces are clean and have no burrs. Inspect the O-ring seal on the adapter. Install a new one if necessary.

2. Put the 6V4002 Forcing Brackets on a flat surface with the studs up. See Illustration 2.

3. Place the seal adapter on the forcing brackets as shown in Illustration 2.

4. Put the seal and wear sleeve on the adapter with the seal lip up. Do not put sealant or lubricant on the seal or wear sleeve. A sealant is put on the parts before they are shipped.

5. Put the 6V4001 Forcing Ring over the studs for the forcing brackets, and over the seal. Install four 5/16"-18 nuts on the studs. See Illustration 3. Tighten the nuts evenly until the forcing ring pushes the seal completely against the bottom of the bore. Remove the forcing ring.

6. Install the two 5/16"-18 guide studs in the top holes in the engine housing.

7. Use the 2N5006 Bolts to install the 6V4003 Locator on the crankshaft. See Illustration 4.

8. Lubricate the O-ring seal on the adapter and slide the adapter into place on the guide studs. See Illustration 4.

9. Install the 6V4001 Forcing Ring over the small diameter of the 6V4004 Installer. Make sure the forcing ring fits completely against the shoulder of the installer. With the parts together, slide the forcing ring over the guide studs, until the installer is against the seal adapter. See Illustration 5.

10. Install the 9S8858 Nut. Tighten the nut to install the seal adapter and wear sleeve.
