在水温调节器损坏前就应更换水温调节器。 此程序是推荐的预防性保养实践。 更换水温调节器可减少计划外停机的概率。
水温调节器在部分开启位置失效时，会引起发动机过热或过冷。
水温调节器在完全关闭位置失效时，会引起发动机严重过热。 发动机严重过热会引起气缸盖开裂或活塞卡缸故障。
水温调节器在开启位置失效时，会引起发动机在部分负荷时工作温度过低。 发动机部分负荷时工作温度过低会造成气缸内过分积碳， 从而加速活塞环和缸套的磨损。 此外，低温也会使湿气凝结到机油中。 此湿气可能会形成有害的酸。

不能定期有计划地更换水温调节器会引起发动机严重损坏。 切勿在没有安装温度调节器的情况下运行发动机。 如果水温调节器安装不正确，发动机可能过热，造成气缸盖损坏。 确保新的水温调节器安装在原来的位置。 |
注: 如果只更换水温调节器，排放冷却系统中的冷却液至液位低于水温调节器壳即可。
