(1) Oil sampling valve

Oil sampling valve (1) for the transmission oil is located on the transmission oil filter.

SOS oil samples are to be taken when the engine is running and the oil is at operating temperature. The SOS oil analysis can be used two ways. (1) Before the oil is drained for an oil change the analysis indicates past transmission wear on contamination issues. (2) If the SOS sample is taken at 24140 km (15000 mi) and the oil is not changed, the sample can be used as an indicator of the need for future oil and/or filter changes.
