Compression Brake - Inspect/Adjust/Replace

Usage:

C-12 9SM

Inspect/Adjust

The maintenance of the compression brake should be performed in conjunction with scheduled engine maintenance. The correct tune-up kit is required, when parts are replaced on the compression brake. Refer to Parts Manual for further information.

Inspect the following components of the compression brake.

  • Housings

  • Solenoid valves

  • Terminal connections

  • Wiring harness

Inspect the slave piston adjusting screw of the compression brake. Adjust this component, as required.

Note: The slave piston adjustment must be performed after the engine valve lash is performed. Make the slave piston adjustment while the engine is stopped.

Replace

Replace the following components of the compression brake at the interval which occurs first: Every 966000 km (600000 miles) or every 12000 service hours or every 6 years.

  • Accumulator springs

  • Bridge screw and pin assembly

  • Control valve spring

  • Control valves

  • Master piston return spring

  • Solenoid seal rings
